Microsoft had a very good April but Sony is back on top in the console wars when it comes to units sold, according to industry analyst NPD. While specific numbers have not been released, the company confirmed that Sony did outsell Microsoft when it comes to hardware in May.
That victory means that the PS4 has actually won the sales war every month this year except for April. “As we head into E3, we would like to thank gamers for making PS4 the top-selling console and the leader in software sales in the U.S. in May,” a Sony spokesperson said in a statement provided to GamesBeat. “We are truly humbled by this success and we look forward to sharing what’s next for PS4 at our E3 press conference on June 15.”
The interesting thing here is that Microsoft is clearly taking its whipping in the sales market seriously promising to bring a number of games this year that will make gamers want to own an Xbox One, including Halo 5: Guardians. The newest iteration of the Halo series is easily one of the biggest console exclusive titles talked about since the Xbox One and PS4 came on the market.
Microsoft clearly has its eyes on the prize in the near future as well, considering it is bringing a new version of the Xbox One, complete with a bigger HDD and revamped controller next week. While there are rumors of a new 1TB PS4 as well, Sony hasn’t confirmed its bigger HDD version. Microsoft getting their improved Xbox One out sooner could be a big factor in the coming months when talking about the console sales wars.
