It’s been a busy day for Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, who recently spoke to Games Industry International about the pricing for the Xbox One versus the PS4. According to Pachter, the PS4 is beating the Xbox One only because it is priced lower and if Microsoft opts for a $399 tag, sales could roughly equal to that of Sony’s.
“The reason Sony beats Microsoft is solely the price. Microsoft loses the next generation unless they cut price. If Microsoft drops its price to $399, I expect the sales to be equal to the PS4.”
Pachter also believes that talk of the PS4 or Xbox One outselling their predecessors is unrealistic. “The next generation of consoles is probably the last. We expect frequent model updates instead of new consoles. I think the PC is going to make a comeback, the PC will be the hub of all this stuff.”
Do you agree with Pachter? It’s certainly a given that the enthusiasm for new consoles will be high right now considering they’ve just released but how about down the line, especially as Valve’s PC-centric Steam Machine releases? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
