PS4 Pre-orders Up From Previous Gen, Console Will Launch at “Level We’ve Never Seen Before”

Sony Computer Entertainment UK head Fergal Gara recently spoke to VG247 about the pre-order numbers of the PlayStation 4 and how the console will be the biggest launch the company has ever seen.

On being asked whether the number of PS4 pre-orders in the UK is up from the previous generation, Gara responded, “They’re spectacularly up on the last generation. The number was greater than 1 million units and the UK represents a big chunk of that. Pre-orders are incredibly healthy. They give us every confidence that this generation will get off to a stunning start.

“I think there are some naysayers out there who think console gaming’s on the way out: if you look at the pre-order numbers you’d come to a very different conclusion. There’s a certainty it’s going to start with a big bang.

“We’re very pleased with that, although there is a downside. How much stock to fulfil how much demand is now the game we’re playing. If you go back a few months, the sheer level of demand wasn’t really anticipated. It’s the biggest we’ve ever seen. A level we’ve never seen before.”

The PlayStation 4 is set to launch on November 29th in Europe.
