Sony recently revealed that the PlayStation 4 had reached 110.4 million units in worldwide shipments. For the quarter ending March 31st 2020, it managed to ship 1.5 million units and managed to cross its forecast for console sales during fiscal year 2019 with 13.6 million units sold. Granted, the number of units shipped in this quarter is down compared to the same period last fiscal year (which was 2.6 million).
PlayStation Plus subscribers rose by 5.1 million over the same period last year to hit 41.5 million in total as of March 31st 2020. Software sales for this quarter totaled 59.6 million units, up 4.9 million over last year. Digital sales continue to rise, constituting 66 percent of total sales.
Sony didn’t provide a forecast for how many PS4 units it would sell in the coming fiscal year (which ends March 31st 2021), likely due to issues with its component supply chain. It did provide an update on the PS5 though, stating that it was still scheduled for launch in the coming Holiday season. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
