The next generation of consoles draws near, with both Sony and Microsoft having revealed initial specs for the PS5 and the Xbox Scarlett respectively- and it’s fair to say that the upcoming consoles are looking very impressive, like a proper leap over current hardware. And though there are some that aren’t too hot on the approaching next gen, others are quite excited by it.

For instance, Ubisoft. Recently, while speaking with The Telegraph at E3 2019, Ubisoft’s Executive Director for EMEA territories Alain Corre got to talking about future technologies and the new, upcoming consoles, and said that the PS5 and the Xbox Scarlett are going to be a “major leap” over what consoles can offer currently.

“We don’t know what the fans will want, we don’t know how streaming will increase,” said Corre. “What we do know is that the next generation of consoles which have been announced are a really major leap from the current generation, and for us creators, it is fantastic because we have always been very excited in trying to capture the cutting edge of what technology can offer.”

Corre later went into the specifics, mentioning things such as the inclusion of an SSD and how it will cut down load times, as well as increased visual fidelity with 8K visuals, both of which are among the many things that are going to, in his words, “make these machines super sexy for the fans to look forward to.”

“The new technologies will provide new ways for fans to exchange data,” he said. “And there are plenty of other new elements to improve the quality of gaming. Microsoft spoke about SSD and the fact they want to reduce the loading times – which we like very much because we’re players too! It’s a very important topic and it’s a revolution, this thing. On the graphics side, it’s still improving because you will see a difference from 4K to 8K. There are things they are proposing that will make these machines super sexy for the fans to look forward to.”

Xbox Scarlett (or whatever Microsoft ultimately ends up calling it) will be launching in Holiday 2020. We don’t have a release window for the PS5 yet, but we can probably expect it to release around that time as well.
