Double Fine Productions’ next big title Psychonauts 2 won’t be releasing in 2018. Though the developer never really announced a release date, it did project 2018 as the year that Raz and friends would make a return. That’s unfortunately not happening.

In a developer update that released before the holidays, project lead Zak McClendon and Double Fine founder Tim Schafer talked about the delay and taking time to ensure the game is truly great. A whole bunch of new footage was showcased, especially with regards to Raz’s family. Various Double Fine employees offered some new details on creating characters and the overall process.

Development on Psychonauts 2 is currently going well regardless and the game will arrive for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Thus far, it’s been in the works since we’ve known of its crowdfunding campaign which raised $3.8 million from backers. What effect the delay will have on the game’s budget and overall development cost remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more details.
