In case you forgot about it, Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2 has gained a new publisher in Starbreeze, known for publishing Payday 2. The latter will handle marketing and distributing for the sequel when it launches in 2018.

The publisher $8 million into Psychnoauts 2 after which it will recoup “100 percent of its full investment including marketing costs with an initial revenue share of 85 percent after distribution and platform fees and Fig crowdfunding revenue share.”

Double Fine will still own the IP and develop the game but Starbreeze will receive 60 percent of revenues once its investment has been recouped. “Double Fine will retain 100 percent of the intellectual property relating to Psychonauts 2.”

Psychonauts 2 is currently in development for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What are your thoughts on Starbreeze signing on especially after it re-acquired the rights for Payday 2 from 505 Games (leading to micro-transactions being dropped from the multiplayer shooter)? Let us know in the comments below.
