Quake Champions Closed Beta Getting Australian Servers

But not immediately.

The closed beta for Quake Champions, id Software’s arena shooter in the hallowed FPS series, will receive servers in Australia. This is a pretty big deal since Australia usually gets the short end of the stick when it comes to decent multiplayer ping.

However, it won’t happen immediately. Id Software head Tim Willits told IGN that, “I love my Australian fans, but y’all live on the other side of the world!

“So we’re going to move into closed beta very soon, and we are working with a major server cloud company and so we are not spinning up Australian servers until a few weeks after we go into our closed beta, so don’t anyone get all upset down in Australia. We haven’t forgot about you.”

Today’s technology has made Australian servers “much easier” than, say, South America. “So no one panic in Australia, we got you guys covered. But we will get you in to the closed beta after we get our servers spun up in North America and Europe – but you guys are not far behind.”

Quake Champions will be heading into closed beta on April 6th. You can sign up here to participate.
