RAGE 2’s World Is Smaller But Denser Than Just Cause 4

"It’s definitely big, but we’re really going for density," says id Software studio director Tim Willits.

RAGE 2, the collaboration between id Software and open world connoisseurs Avalanche Studios, is almost here, and is touting the kind of open world chaos that we have all come to expect from the developers of Just Cause, blended with the classic, thumping, and impactful FPS combat that id Software games never fail fail to deliver.

Just as it is the case with any open world game though, one of the questions most people have about RAGE 2’s world is- how big is it? For instance, how big is the game’s map in comparison to Avalanche Studios’ own Just Cause 4 (which itself was absolutely gargantuan, by the way). id Software studio director Tim Willits was asked that exact question in an interview with DualShockers– and apparently, though physically the map in RAGE 2 is smaller than the one seen in last year’s Just Cause 4, it’s also going to be more dense.

“The physical size is actually smaller, but it’s denser,” said Willits. “So, we don’t have jet planes; you’re not flying for a thousand miles, but as you saw when you played, we try to put something fun and engaging around every corner. We felt that was the way that we wanted to design this game. Denser and more compact.”

“It’s big,” he added. “It’s definitely big, but we’re really going for density.”

RAGE 2 recently wrapped up development, and is out in a week’s time, on May 14, for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Check out its minimum and recommended system requirements for PC through here.
