Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege has been a huge success, receiving numerous updates and Operators over the years. It’s currently at 55 million registered players with Operation Void Edge, the first season of Year 5, having been revealed. However – and you knew this was coming – the developer is targeting a release for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

Director Leroy Athanassof confirmed this to Window Central but noted that the team was targeting the launch of both consoles. “What I can tell you is that we are going to be on [the consoles] from launch. When they will release the consoles; but it’s up to them to agree that. For Siege, our target is to be available right at launch.”

Cross-play between current and next-gen owners of the same console family will also be available. So essentially, Xbox Series X owners can play with Xbox One owners and PS5 players can match with PS4 players. What about cross-play between Xbox and PlayStation platforms? Athanassof said the team is “ready to support that” but it will take some time.

“We would love to be fully cross-play – have Xbox players matchmaking against the PlayStation players. We are ready to support that. And hopefully, this will happen because as I said, it’s a general move in the industry, and there is nothing that can prevent that. It’s just a matter of time before it happens.”

The Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are slated to launch in the holiday season. Neither console has announced prices though a recent report indicated that the PS5’s per unit manufacturing costs sit at $450. Pricing will apparently depend on what Microsoft prices the Series X at. Stay tuned for more details, as always, in the coming months.
