Insomniac Games’ Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart has gone gold a little less than a month before launch. This means that principle development on the action platformer shooter is done and it’s currently being set for certification and physical disc distribution. There will likely be a day one patch though so Insomniac’s work isn’t done yet.
The story sees Ratchet and Clank celebrating their numerous victories, but this is cut short when Doctor Nefarious swoops in to steal the Dimensionator. When it malfunctions, the duo is dragged through numerous different dimensions, including a future dystopia where Nefarious has won. This is where new character Rivet comes into play as she rebels against the regime.
Along with new weapons, worlds and movement options, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart takes advantage of the PS5’s SSD for quickly and seamlessly loading new areas. The title’s streaming architecture (which was used in the Marvel’s Spider-Man series) has also allowed for worlds to have more “density, content and quality” in every corner. It’s out on June 11th so stay tuned for more details.
