The upcoming Ratchet game won't be cross-gen, in case you were wondering.

We’ve heard plenty about how the PS5’s SSD is going to bring so much more than just shorter load times, and might actually have a tangible impact on game design itself. So far, the biggest proof we’ve seen of that is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, which looks to be leveraging next-gen hardware to deliver an experience with its dimension and world-hopping shenanigans that doesn’t seem like it would have been possible on the PS4.

However, with Sony clearly being committed to supporting the PS4 for the foreseaable future, and with games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West being cross-gen, several people have wondered whether Ratchet and Clank’s next entry will end up releasing for the PS4 as well. The answer to that question, as you may have guessed, is no, as Insomniac Games recently confirmed in response to a question on Twitter.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is scheduled to release in the PS5’s launch window, which isn’t exactly a rough release timeframe, but does suggest an early 2021 launch. When the game does release, it will offer options for both 4K and 60 FPS.
