ESCAPING A LIFE OF CRIME
As mentioned earlier, one of the things that motivated John’s character in the first Red Dead Redemption title was that he wanted to make sure that his son Jack doesn’t fall into the same life of crime that he had, and much of what he does is to that end. While Arthur doesn’t really seem to care about anything even close to that in the first half of Red Dead Redemption 2, as the game progresses, and he begins realizing that Dutch has started to unravel, Arthur makes it his mission to help John and his family escape before he himself succumbs to his sickness. His wish to see John escape their life of crime to make a better life for his family is similar to what John wishes for Jack in the first games, and sadly enough, both those wishes ultimately don’t end up counting for much.
