Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 has done extremely well, shipping three million units worldwide in its first week for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The company announced the milestone recently and also revealed that cumulative sales for the series (as of January 28th, 2019) have totalled 88 million units. Not bad, considering the first game released in 1996.
It’s also especially impressive when you consider that the 1998 version of Resident Evil 2 managed to sell 4.96 million units in total. While Capcom didn’t confirm the actual sales numbers, the number of units shipped does indicate incredibly strong demand. We’ll have to wait and see how the figures work out in terms of physical and digital sales, but if its UK debut is anything to go by, Resident Evil 2 is doing extremely.
The fun doesn’t stop with the base game though. On February 15th, The Ghost Survivors DLC will arrive, bringing three new “what if” scenarios featuring three new playable characters. Capcom has indicated that other scenarios will be coming as well, so stay tuned for more information in the coming months.
