The post-launch mode seems to be a randomizer split into three volumes.

Capcom recently held a launch celebration livestream for Resident Evil 2. Along with gameplay footage, the developer also announced free content that would be coming to the game at launch. Dubbed “The Ghost Survivors”, this is essentially a new mode that functions as a sort of randomizer. It will feature characters like Robert Kendo and Katherine, the mayor’s daughter.

As spotted by users on ResetERA, the mode will be somewhat similar to Extreme Battle from the classic version of Resident Evil 2. Players can explore the world, earn points, and then spend those in-game at a shop. The Ghost Survivors aims to be very replayable and will be divided into three volumes, with the first featuring Kendo, Katherine, and a USS member.

This first volume will also apparently feature a new enemy that’s not otherwise in Resident Evil 2. A release date wasn’t provided, and there are still plenty of details that have to be clarified (such as whether Leon and Claire will be playable). Meanwhile, Resident Evil 2 is slated to launch for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on January 25th.
