Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is, structurally, one of the most unique mainline gams in the Resident Evil series. Chronologically, it kicks off just a couple hours before Resident Evil 2 begins, and then runs concurrently with it for much of its duration, while its finale takes place after it. That structure will, of course, remain intact in the upcoming remake- in fact, Capcom are going to expand on it even more, by making the stories of Resident Evil 2 and 3’s remakes connect much more than the stories of the original two games did.
Talking to the Official PlayStation Magazine in their February 2020 issue (issue 171), Resident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano said that the two remakes are going to be far more interconnected than the original two games were. “You would expect since the events do indeed chronologically overlap that there would be things you’d find familiar,” said Fabiano. “I’ll just leave it at that for now.”
Whether that’ll come in the form of smaller connections, easter eggs, and callbacks to last year’s remakes or something that takes a much more central role in the story remains to be seen, but the idea is definitely a exciting one.
Plenty of new Resident Evil 3 information has emerged recently, thanks to this same interview. For instance, we know that the remake will be cutting two features that were included in the original game- alternate endings and the beloved Mercenaries mode, with the 4v1 Resistance taking the latter’s place.
Resident Evil 3 is out on April 3 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
