Revelations is awesome

Though the Resident Evil series has seen some lows, Capcom are scoring the headshots once again with the very recently released Revelations on 3DS. It blends in the horror of old with the new action focused gameplay of the later titles in the franchise, and the rave reviews have reflected how successfully Capcom have done this. If they keep riding this particular wave of success, Resi 6 could well be the best one yet.

Multiple narratives

Whilst the trailer for Resi 6 had a focus on Leon Kennedy, we also saw some action involving series favourite Chris Redfield, along with a new and unnamed mercenary with some bad-ass hand to hand moves. It seems set to offer a more varied and action packed story, with the multiple narratives hopefully offering a swift story pacing. It can only get better with more people involved.

A more engaging story

A kidnapped president’s daughter, a missing team you need to look for. Neither of these scenarios are at all interesting or original, yet they managed to do the job in RE4 and 5 respectively. Things seem more interesting in number six though, with Leon being forced into making a decision about how to deal with the zombified president of the USA. Elements of Chris’ character are also seen to be a sticking point in the trailer, making it appear as if we’ll get a stronger sense of characterisation and story in Resident Evil 6 than in previous instalments.

NPCs

Now you need to shoot your way around these guys as well

Part of the trailer revolves around Chris shooting his way through a city in China under the grip of infection. Something that sticks out in the footage is the liberal sprinkling of non player characters across the city streets. Resident Evil games usually just feature player characters and enemies, so the inclusion of neutral civilians could offer an intriguing new dynamic to the series’ staples.
