Resident Evil Requiem Wasn’t Originally Planned for Nintendo Switch 2, Says Producer

Confidence from porting Resident Evil Village to the hardware ultimately led Capcom to develop a version for the Switch 2.

Even with the lack of Leon announcements at Tokyo Game Show 2025, Resident Evil Requiem still received positive feedback, especially on the Nintendo Switch 2. Based on some recent handheld mode gameplay, it appears far better than many were expecting, especially for a native version of the game.

However, as producer Masato Kumazawa told IGN, it wasn’t originally planned for the console. “The Switch 2 hadn’t been announced when we started planning this game, so of course it wasn’t in the original plan. When the Switch 2 was announced, we were able to start testing, developing games for it, and we thought it would be great if we could bring the Resident Evil series to this platform.”

The team first began by internally porting Resident Evil Village to see if it would “work well on the hardware, and it looked really great, so that gave us the confidence to add a Switch 2 version of Requiem to the plans, and that led us to the recent announcement where we confirmed not only Requiem was coming, but 7 and 8 would also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 at the same time.”

When asked if the Switch 2 version had any unique features, Kumazawa said, “In a good way,” that it didn’t. Given the quality of its visuals, it’s likely most players will be satisfied with that.

Launching on February 27th, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem will also be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Despite Leon S. Kennedy not being revealed, the rumors maintain that he’s a playable character with more action-focused gameplay and larger areas to explore than Grace. As always, stay tuned for more updates in the coming months.
