Samurai Shodown

Remember that rollback netcode update for SNK’s Samurai Shodown, which had an open beta last February on Steam? Planned to go live for almost all platforms in Spring, it’s been delayed to late Summer due to “various setbacks and extenuating circumstances during development and in light of our ongoing efforts to further enhance the player experience.”

However, the first community beta did provide “great insight” into what had to be improved, so there’s that. SNK apologized for the delay and assured that its partners, Code Mystics, are “fully committed to delivering a more seamless online battle experience, and we truly appreciate your understanding and patience throughout this process.”

In the meantime, a second community beta is taking place on Steam this month. There will be more details “as soon as they become available,” so stay tuned in the coming weeks.

Samurai Shodown is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch, and is the first mainline title in the series since 2010’s Samurai Shodown Sen. Sadly, rollback netcode won’t be available for the Switch version when it goes live. Check out our official review for more details on the game, which has received several DLC characters like Baiken from Guilty Gear.
