Sea of Thieves Might be Headed to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch – Rumour

It's been claimed that Microsoft's multiplayer pirate adventure game will be releasing for rival platforms in early 2024.

Recent rumblings have claimed that Microsoft is considering bringing larger number of its back catalog titles to rival platforms, and though leaks and rumours have, until now, primarily been focused on Hi-Fi Rush supposedly coming to the Nintendo Switch, it’s now being claimed that another major first party Xbox game is also going multiplatform.

Speaking recently on Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings podcast, journalist Jeff Grubb has claimed that Sea of Thieves could be headed to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch (though whether it’ll launch for the Switch itself or for its successor, which is widely expected to release in the second half of the year, remains to be seen).

“I’ll say I’ve heard that is one that might be coming to other platforms,” Grubb said. “When I first started hearing these rumors, I was like, ‘Oh this is probably about Sea of Thieves, because I’ve heard that could come to Switch and PlayStation.'”

Journalist Stephen Totilo, formerly of Kotaku and Axios, has also made similar claims in his industry newsletter Game File. Though Totilo hasn’t heard about a Switch version of the multiplayer pirate adventure game, he also says Sea of Thieves is headed to PlayStation based on what he’s heard from sources familiar with plans for the game, with a release supposedly being targeted sometime in early 2024.

Sea of Thieves is currently available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. In June 2022, Microsoft announced that it had surpassed 30 million lifetime players.
