Sea of Thieves - Shrouded Spoils

Rare’s Sea of Thieves will be receiving a new expansion today with Shrouded Spoils. While detailed patch notes will be revealed later, Polygon did have several details on what to expect. The key appeal here is the new emergent fog weather, which can cover the sea. Be extra careful, especially since various dangers could be hiding within.

Other new features include the Megalodon and Kraken now dropping loot. While the former gets new models, the latter will now spawn more frequently. The Kraken also has a new attack – slapping – and is more effective at dealing damage to your ship. Six new fort locations are being added, with some requiring a bit of exploring to reach.

The Skeleton Galleons (and new Skeleton Sloops) will also appear as world encounters. Sometimes they’ll leave you alone, but they could just as easily attack. Mermaid Statues are also returning, dropping gems when destroyed. These can be sold to the Merchant Alliance for Reputation and Gold. The faction also has a new “crate of ancient bone dust” and Mega-Kegs, the latter offering a more larger explosion radius.

New Pirate Legends content, ship customization options, and much more are also inbound. With The Arena releasing in 2019 and bringing competitive PvP to Sea of Thieves, there’s a lot for would-be pirates to look forward to. Stay tuned for more details on when Shrouded Spoils goes live.
