First announced back in 2019Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is a game thar we’ve been waiting for (and hearing about) for a long time now, but the long road to its launch does seem to be winding down to its end. Earlier this year, Microsoft showcased new footage from the game and confirmed that it would be out in 2024, and now we might also have an indication of exactly when in 2024 it will be coming.

On a recent episode of The Fourth Curtain podcast, Matt Booty – Xbox’s head of content and studios – spoke about Xbox’s long-standing plan to release a significant new first party title in every quarter, and while going over the company’s current and upcoming release schedule, mentioned that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will launch “later” in 2024, after the respective releases of Ara: History Untold and Towerborne.

“We’ve got a goal of a big game – you know, a new release, something significant – going out four times a year,” Booty said (transcription via Pure Xbox). “So every three months we’ve got something new coming out. And I think with Starfield and then going into Forza Motorsport, and then as we head into next year we showed the game Ara: [History Untold] and the game Towerborne at Gamescom, we’ve got Hellblade 2 that comes later, it feels like we’re getting there.”

That would presumably suggest that the game will launch at some point in the second half of the year, with Ara and Towerborne being Microsoft’s first party releases in Q1 and Q2 of 2024. The company also has Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Avowed lined up for release next year, so it should be interesting to see where exactly Hellblade falls on the release calendar.

In September, developer Ninja Theory suggested that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 had hit a major development milestone and become fully playable from start to finish, so it certainly seems like the game is making steady progress behind the scenes.
