Ys Net’s first paid DLC for Shenmue 3 is coming soon. The developer announced that Battle Rally would release on January 21st for PC and PS4. It can be purchased standalone for $7.99 and also comes included with the Complete DLC Collection.

So what is Battle Rally? It’s essentially about racing against other characters. Yes, seriously. Along with protagonist Ryo, players can choose Wuying Ren and Wei Zhen. In terms of “head-to-head battles”, this isn’t quite what we had in mind but it’s interesting, if nothing else.

Shenmue 3 is currently available for PS4 and on PC via the Epic Games Store. The title has received its fair share of praise for staying true to the older games while also being criticized for failing to adopt more contemporary mechanics. Check out our review of the game here.

What could the other DLC offer, especially given how unorthodox Battle Rally is? Stay tuned for more details in the coming months (especially since Shenmue 4 might be in the works).
