Fishing can be a pretty beneficial activity in Shenmue 3 and there are plenty of spots to fish once the activity becomes available. Once you’re told to meet Shenhua at Ternary Spring, Huang’s Tackle will open up.  Go to the lake near Man Yuan Temple and you should find his store.

It’s there that you can rent a fishing road for the day. It can also be rented while an event is ongoing. Such events include the Bailu Fishing Tournament which becomes available near the beginning (and rewards a special T-shirt if you catch the biggest fish from 12 PM to 3 PM). With all that in mind, how exactly do you fish?

How to Fish

First, locate a fishing spot, usually marked by an arrow pointing down (there’s a shabby pier near the lake’s shop, for instance). Cast with the X button on PS4 and reel in with the right stick. Once you get a bit, reel in the line faster. Use the left stick to move the rod when the lights start flashing on-screen. If you do it right, then the fish should be yours.

If you need money, it’s always worthwhile to fish since larger catches can provide some pretty good rewards. If you have a decent amount of funds and enough experience, try investing in the Quality Fishing Set for even more catches leading to more money earned.

How to Find Lao Jiu

To learn the Body Check to progress in the main story, you’ll need some Old Lao Jiu for Sun, the Martial Arts master. Head to the Tao-Get Store and ask about the wine. Search the store for a pot in the upper right corner. It costs 2,000 Yuan but fortunately, there are several ways to earn money quickly. Pick up and sell herbs like Cinnamon or Jujubes for money or simply go fishing. Once you have the money, pick up the Lao Jiu and give it to sun to advance your training.
