It’s been a long road to get to Shenmue 3. It’s been marred in controversy because of the unexpected Epic Games Store exclusivity for the PC version of the game (despite being a crowd-funded title), the refund situation for those who want one is a sticky one, it suffered a major delay, some backers aren’t too happy about the bonuses they won’t get, and there’s also the whole thing about the franchise being dead for over a decade. But all of that is what it is, and the game is about to be in fan’s hands soon, and the Creator of the franchise wants to say thank you.

In a message on both the game’s official Kickstarter as well as a video, which you can see below, Yu Suzuki gives a big thank you to fans of the series. Unlike a lot of games, when he says it’s thanks to fans it’s actually being pretty literal since without the money from the initial crowdfunding campaign, it’s very probable this game would not have existed. It’s a nice gesture for those who have kept trucking on a rather rough path.

Shenmue 3 will release tomorrow for PlayStation 4 and PC. You can check out the game’s launch trailer through here.
