Akira Yamaoka’s Soundtrack (Again)

Silent Hill 3_04

Akira Yamaoka’s compositions are the stuff of legend. In Silent Hill 2, emotions like sadness and love were beautifully conveyed while still creating an eerie atmosphere. Silent Hill 3 employs more vocal performances and embodies a more youthful somberness, as heard in “You’re Not Here” (performed excellently by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn). Tracks like “Small Sanctuary” enforced that feeling of other-worldliness while still remaining upbeat. Meanwhile, tragedy can be felt in “Please, Love Me…Once More.” There’s a richness in the music that feels natural yet contemporary, enduring through till this day.
