SimCity Disasters Trailer: Burn This City!

Which is funny, because despite all the fire, infernos as a disaster are missing.

One of the more awesome features of the SimCity franchise has been the random disasters, which threw an awesome wrench into the proceedings and pushed gamers to think on their feet. And the sort-of reboot, sort-of sequel, due for PC and Mac OS X in 2013, is bringing that back. In this PSA-style trailer, Maxis outlines the various disasters that take place in the game.

In the trailer, we see there are four kinds of disasters: tornadoes, meteorites, earthquakes and UFOs. The tornadoes look a little underwhelming in the beginning (but stick around for a minute later, when we see the big bad wind tunnel in action), with the earthquakes encompassing the requisite shock wave. The meteorite looks sweet, toppling even the most enormous skyscraper (in reference to something, perhaps?). The UFO attack is short but sweet. Hopefully we can see a fleet of these in action.

So repair, rebuild and attend to the disasters as much as possible. Because really, for a city-building game, it’s imperative to keep building, yes?
