With Nintendo adjusting the accessory prices for the Switch 2 and Microsoft hiking prices for its Xbox hardware (with first-party titles to follow), Sony could be the next manufacturer to increase console prices.

The company’s latest financial results estimate a 100 billion Yen (roughly $650 million) operating income impact due to recent US tariffs. In a webcast (clips courtesy of Destin Legarie on Twitter), chief financial officer Lin Tao said it’s considering passing this on to the price of hardware.

Regarding PS5 production in the United States, President and CEO Hiroki Totoki added that whether it will happen or not, such a move “needs to be considered going forward.” Of course, the time this process would take and the effect on Sony’s business strategy remains to be seen.

If a price hike does occur, it wouldn’t be the first, as Sony upped the prices of the console in Japan last year and more recently in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The Slim version still retails for $499.99, while the PS5 Pro costs $699.99 in the United States.

The PS5 has shipped 77.8 million units worldwide as of March 31st, 2025. Head here for more details.
