Sony On PS3 Free To Play Games: “There’s no reason why we can’t do it”

Free To Play Games seems to be the hot trend these days. There have been a number of games like Battlefield Heroes from Electronic Arts, Quake Live from id Software who have jumped the FTP concept in recent years. And we are seeing more and more bigger publishers and developers drifting towards FTP.

Sony are not strangers to the free to play arena. They have done games like Free Realms in 2009 so it only makes sense that one might think bringing them to the PlayStation 3.

In an interesting interview with MCVUK, CEO Jim Ryan from SCEE certainly thinks that this is possible but it will all depend on how gamers will react to it.

“There’s no reason why we can’t do it. But first of all you need to know what the consumer proposition is. Provided you can work that out, there’s nothing stopping a third party or a Sony studio doing that”, he said.

Lets just hope that Sony brings Free To Play games on PS3 which may actually increase the popularity of the PlayStation Network to no end.
