Sony has bowed out of a number of events this year, especially with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic happening. Add the Brazil Game Show to the list. The official PlayStation Brazil Twitter recently confirmed the lack of attendance.
The translated tweet states that, “After a long evaluation, Sony Interactive Entertainment decided not to participate in the Brazil Game Show in 2020. We can’t wait to be able to interact with our fans in Brazil and announce exciting activities until the end of the year.” Though the Brazil Game Show is slated to take place in October, the nature of the current pandemic makes it unclear as to whether things will calm down by then.
Sony had already backed out of several other events this year due to COVID-19 including GDC and PAX East. The only exception is E3 2020, which would be subsequently cancelled as well, but that’s only because the publisher confirmed beforehand that it wouldn’t be attending. The pandemic has affected major upcoming titles as well like The Last of Us Part 2 and Marvel’s Iron Man VR, which have both been delayed indefinitely.
Time will tell if the PlayStation 5’s launch is also impacted. The next-generation console is still due to release by the holiday season.
Após uma longa avaliação, a Sony Interactive Entertainment decidiu não participar da Brasil Game Show em 2020. Não vemos a hora de podermos interagir com nossos fãs no Brasil e anunciarmos atividades emocionantes até o final do ano.
