Nintendo recently unveiled Splatoon 3’s next Splatfest, which is set to kick off on January 7, bringing another three-way battle for the community to take part in. Along with it, the event will also bring a particular feature that players have been hoping to see for some time.

As confirmed via the official Japanese Splatoon Twitter page, partway through the next event, Splatoon 3 will make Tricolor Match a separate, selectable mode. Until now, Tricolor Turf Wars have not only been entirely random, they’ve also been too fair, to the frustration of many. With this incoming update, players will be able to hop into a Tricolor Turf Wars match at will and choose which team they want to play for.

Players will be able to hop in alone or join matches together with another player in the same team. Meanwhile, matchmaking will also be available as an option.

Splatoon 3 is available on Nintendo Switch.
