Square Enix’s Star Ocean: The Second Story R has been announced for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and PC via Steam. It launches on November 2nd for $49.99 and serves as a 2.5D remake for Star Ocean: The Second Story. Check out the first trailer below.
The story features dual protagonists, Claude and Rena, with differing perspectives and allies based on who you choose. The two embark on a journey to save Expel, and venture through dungeons and towns, battling enemies in real-time combat. Battles revolve around breaking enemies with damage and then using Assault Actions to follow up.
As a mix of HD-2D pixel sprite characters and 3D environments, the remake looks gorgeous while retaining that retro feel. In addition to a rearranged soundtrack by composer Motoi Sakuraba, the original composer, there’s new music for different story sections and boss battles.
