Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – PS5’s DualSense Mimics the Feel of Force Push and Pull

Pushing hard on the adaptive triggers versus "lightly feathering" them will give different responses, says director Stig Asmussen.

It’s no secret that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a massive step up over the first game in every way. That extends to the Force powers, with the addition of Force Slow and Force Confusion. On PS5, it will leverage the DualSense to give you that feeling of being one with the Force.

Speaking to PlayStation Blog, director Stig Asmussen said, “With the PS5, we’re really digging the haptics and what the controller is bringing, and it’s been a lot of fun to see how that works with push and pull [Force powers]. And a [DualSense] controller, it feels really good, and we’re taking advantage of that. You’re going to feel it on the triggers when you’re doing push and pull.

“If you really [push] on the triggers, it’s going to give a different response. Compared to if you’re lightly feathering them, and the game is going to react to that. It’s the nuance within the vibrations on the controller which is pretty outstanding. Our audio team and our combat team are really dialed into how the things that are happening in the world, the effects, and everything that are like translating to how it feels in your hands.”

Though Asmussen didn’t touch on how the DualSense would affect Lightsaber combat, haptic feedback should vary based on whether an opponent is blocking or getting sliced. Time will tell, so stay tuned.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is out on April 28th for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. In addition to DualSense, it also features faster loading times thanks to the consoles’ SSDs. Asmussen also confirmed that current-gen exclusivity allowed for “much larger maps” with “more detail, greater density, broader enemy/NPC variety, and overall fidelity.”

Gameplay-wise, fans can expect five Lightsaber Stances, new puzzle-centric Jedi Chambers, side quests from various NPCs, and new skills to master. You can head here for the latest details and footage, showcasing Rambler’s Reach, Force Tears and more.
