Ubisoft has a knack for making its games a bit too bloated for their own good, especially when the game in question is one of the company’s flagship open world releases. Thankfully, however, it doesn’t look like such issues are going to be a factor with the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws.

The open world title’s developers have previously ensured that Outlaws isn’t going to be unnecessarily large, and speaking in a recent interview with VGC, creative director Julian Gerighty provided similar assurances, revealing that the game’s main story will be 25-30 hours long. Those who are looking to do a completionist playthrough, meanwhile, can get 50-60 hours out of the game.

Either you, you shouldn’t go in expecting a 200-hour epic, which is something that many are probably going to be relieved about. Interestingly enough, as explained by Gerighty, it was also a factor that affected the game’s development, allowing developer Massive Entertainment to proceed with a relatively “smaller team”.

“Very, very early on, we decided this is going to be a 25, 30 hours golden path adventure, 50 hours, 60 hours for completionists, and that is, for a guy with a family and a job, it’s still a fair amount of time,” Gerigthy said. “But it’s not Assassin’s Creed epic, 200 hours’ worth of gameplay, so that allows us to really focus on the detail, it allows us to focus, maybe with a smaller team, on executing something that is manageable.”

It was previously confirmed that each planet in Star Wars Outlaws will be about as large as 2-3 zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s open world map. Not all areas will be the same in terms of their design, however. For instance, the city of Mirogana is designed as a “compact” map that focuses on “providing a dense, busy city experience.”

Star Wars Outlaws launches August 30 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Check out its recent gameplay deep dive through here.
