At this point, any publisher releasing a game on PC and not putting it on Steam is shooting themselves in the foot, and we continue to see more evidence of that every day. Valve’s platform consistently grows at a rapid rate, and recently hit another major milestone.
As per SteamDB, on Sunday, December 8, Steam hit a new all-time peak of concurrent users, with a total of 39,205,447 people using the platform at the same time. At the time, over 12 million people were playing a game. As recently as September, the platform hit a peak of 38 million concurrent users, so perhaps it won’t be too long before we’re talking about the 40 million mark.
The last week in particular has seen a great deal of activity on Steam thanks to major new releases in the form of Marvel Rivals and Path of Exile 2, both of which have seen massive player numbers on the platform- though of course, there is never any shortage of games with massive activity on Steam.
