Capcom, in association with Double Helix Games, has announced that the original assassin, Strider Hiryu, will be returning to form in a new side-scrolling 3D platformer for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC. Releasing in early 2014, the game will allow players to freely explore Kazakh City and battle new foes in intense, fast-paced fights.

The new game takes place in Meio:048, as Strider fights against a totalitarian government under the rule of Frand Master Meio. Naturally, being the youngest ever Special A-Class ninja, Strider’s goal is to kill Meio and bring down his regime, one dead soldier at a time.

Double Helix is promising to retain many of the tenets that made Strider such a cult classic, including fluid combat and free-flowing travel which includes high-risk jumps and mid-air flips. You’ll also gain a vast array of moves and weapons, which can be upgraded. A number of Strider’s old-school weapons remains such as Cypher, his indestructible plasma charged saber.
