Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s 5th DLC Character Might Be Dante From Devil May Cry

The demon hunter could be joining the fight very soon.

Nintendo recently confirmed that the 5th and final DLC character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s first fighters pass (more DLC characters are currently in development as well) will be revealed on January 16– and while speculation is running rampant (to no one’s surprise), there are some who think they’ve figured out who the 5th DLC character is going to be.

Supposedly, Dante, the protagonist of Capcom’s action franchise Devil May Cry, is going to join the fighter’s massive roster. This is mostly based on a tweet from the official Devil May Cry page and series producer Matt Walker last week. In the message, Walker mentioned a few dates – January 16, January 30, and February 13 – as days to keep an eye on for “full reveals.” While the tweet seemed to be related specifically to Devil May Cry 3’s Switch version, many believe that the reveal Walker is referring to for January 16 is the reveal that Dante is the next Smash Bros. character.

Do keep in mind that this is purely speculation, based on what may very well be a coincidence, while Smash DLC characters also aren’t always easy to predict- so this may very well not end up happening. If it does happen though, it’d be pretty cool- Dante in Smash is something fans have been dreaming about for years.

Besides, he wouldn’t be the first Capcom character to join the fighter’s roster, with the likes of Mega Man and Ryu both having represented Capcom in the series. Smash’s first four DLC characters – Persona 5’s Joker, Dragon Quest’s Hero, Banjo-Kazooie, and Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury – have all been third-party owned as well.

Either way, we should find out soon enough- the fifth Super Smash Bros Ultimate DLC character will be revealed on January 16 at 6 AM PT.
