After reports that SuperCell’s Clash of Clans was garnering $654,000 a day, the developer has revealed in its recent financial report which saw a GAAP revenue $689 million, with earnings prior to tax revenue coming in at $322 million for last year.
SuperCell CEO Ilkka Paananen stated that, “It’s no secret that some players spend substantial amounts of money on these games. But I wouldn’t say the vast majority of revenue comes from them.
“These people usually come from an investment banker or lawyer background, and they spend a lot of money on golf courses and so on. I’ve asked them ‘Why do you spend so much money on these games?’ and they say ‘People spend money on golf, I spend money on Clash of Clans.’”
Gamasutra also revealed that the developer’s tax bill is an amazingly large $345 million. How’s that for free to play revenue? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
