Ubisoft has announced that it is partnering with Tencent. As part of the partnership, Chinese gaming company Tencent will acquire a 49.9% stake in Guillemot Brothers Limited—the company that owns Ubisoft. Tencent will also get 5% voting rights.
The deal involves an investment of around €300 million by Tencent. It is worth noting that, since Tencent has only acquired a minority stake in Guillemot Brothers Limited, the administration of Ubisoft isn’t going to be seeing any major changes.
According to Ubisoft, Tencent’s investment helps cover the development of mobile games developed by Ubisoft, as well as the launch of Ubisoft’s PC games in China.
Ubisoft is currently gearing up for its own games showcase set for this Saturday. At the event, Ubisoft is expected to show off new games set in the Assassin’s Creed setting, currently only known in the rumour mill as Assassin’s Creed Project Hexe and Project Red.
A mainline Assassin’s Creed game, titled Assassin’s Creed Mirage, is also set to be unveiled. Other games at the showcase will include The Division Heartland, The Division Resurgence, Skull and Bones, and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.
