With all the hype surrounding Motive Studios’ upcoming remake of Dead Space, you’d be forgiven for not remembering The Callisto Protocol. Announced in 2020 and developed by Striking Distance Studios, it’s a sci-fi survival horror title set 300 years in the future of PUBG Battlegrounds. Though slated for release this year, there haven’t been many details lately, much less gameplay.

Thankfully, that could change soon. Studio founder and game director Glen Schofield (who also created the Dead Space series at Visceral) recently tweeted an image from a motion-capture session. He stated that, “This is my favorite time when making a game – the design starts coming together. Love seeing all the hard work the team is doing in the mocap studio to bring our characters to life.

“Thanks to everyone waiting as we finish and polish the game. We’ll have more to share soon!” How soon is “soon” remains to be seen but with the Summer Game Fest’s Kickoff Live show coming in June, we may finally get to see a gameplay reveal. Since the developer is aiming to make it “the scariest game on next-gen,” it would be the perfect opportunity for some frights.

The Callisto Protocol is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Though it will be published by Krafton, Skybound Games has partnered with Striking Distance to market and distribute the title worldwide. You can learn more about that here.
