Striking Distance Studios released a new update for The Callisto Protocol last weekend, which provided improvements to combat, fixes for performance, and some “general quality of life changes.” While it didn’t release patch notes, outlets like PC Gamer have discovered one big change – you can now skip the death animations.

It sounds somewhat hilarious, given how enthusiastic the developer was about them (chief technical officer Mark James used the term “murder desserts”). However, the change makes sense, given how many ways there are to die, even accidentally, and how long the scenes can take. Another nice change is that Jacob now heals faster, making it somewhat easier to survive mid-fight. If that weren’t enough, weapon switching is also quicker, making combat that much more intuitive.

The Callisto Protocol is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. It had a rough launch and received middling reviews (check out ours here), but more content is on the way. New Game Plus and Hardcore Mode will arrive free on February 7th, 2023, along with the Outer Way Skin Collection that’s part of the Season Pass.
