THE FINALS has just given us a closer look at the new dynamism update that’s hitting the game on October 20, and it’s a doozy. Embark certainly looks like it’s all out with this one to make its levels as unpredictable as possible.
It’s doing that with changes to the way the game handles destructible environments, including an entirely new layer alongside existing mechanisms to ensure structures crumble rather than break apart. That means you’ll see explosions cave in floors or ceilings, or even burst glass sections of the roof into the air. That could then hit other buildings or structures and create a damage loop that unfolds in front of you in real time, even as you try to survive amid all of the chaos.
Smoke bombs and poison gas bombs have also been swapped out, with their effects now blocked by walls, while you could always dispel the fumes with an explosion to give you a brief window of opportunity against an opponent. All in all, these changes seem like an intelligent, efficient way to make the game more immersive and challenging while ensuring the core gameplay loop stays the same. We’ve left the entire presentation below in case you want to take a look.
