the last of us part 2

Not so long ago, Naughty Dog confirmed that Ellie would be the main playable protagonist in The Last of Us- Part 2, as opposed to Joel, who took centerstage in its predecessor. Recently. Naughty Dog also confirmed that Ellie would be the only playable character. However, it turns out that that might not be the case after all.

In an interview with JeuxActThe Last of Us- Part 2’s co-lead gameplay designer Emilia Schatz said that while Naughty Dog are only ready to show gameplay for Ellie so far, that is something that might change in the future. “At this point we’re just ready to show Ellie as a playable character,” she said. “That may change in the future, but we’re not really ready to talk about that just yet. I think there is quite a lot about this game that has not yet been revealed.”

That sounds interesting, to say the least. If you might remember, back before The Last of Us launched in 2013, Naughty Dog stated on many occasions that Joel would be the only playable character, but when the final product launch, there were indeed sections of the game where you played as Ellie as well. Perhaps there will be sections in The Last of Us- Part 2 where we will play as Joel- or maybe another, new character? That would certainly be interesting.

Notably, Schatz also confirmed in the interview that the gameplay footage we saw at E3 this year was indeed running on a PS4 Pro, and that Naughty Dog have no plans of downgrading the visual quality of the game. “It is running on a PS4 Pro,” she said. “There’s no plans to downgrade the game, no. That’s basically how we hope it will appear.”

“I work with a lot of very, very talented people,” Schatz said when asked about how Naughty Dog games, including this one, manage to have such technical and visual excellent almost every single time. “They keep me in awe all the time. They constantly challenge me to make sure that my gameplay lives up to the art that they create for it.”

The Last of Us- Part 2 is without a release date yet, in spite of having a pretty major presence at E3 this year. Stay tuned to GamingBolt and we will keep bringing you more updates on the game as they come our way.
