The Last of Us Part 2 May Not Release In 2018 And Here’s Another Probable Reason Why

Not that we expected it to, anyway.

The last of us part II PS4 Pro

The Last of Us- Part II has to be among the most hotly anticipated PS4 games, but the general consensus remains that the game is a ways off from release yet. Most people, myself included, have been speculating that the game won’t be out anytime before 2019, and if recent hints are anything to go by, that may indeed be the case.

That hint comes from the official PlayStation Blog itself- the site has opened up user voting for their Game of the Year awards, and among the several categories listed is one for the most highly anticipated 2018 PS4 games. Notably enough, The Last of Us 2 is not included in the nominations.

This is particularly strange, not just because it’s arguably the biggest upcoming PlayStation launch, but also because it was included in this same category back in 2016. What changed? Probably Sony’s estimation for when the game will launch- they may not be expecting it to be done in time for a 2018 release.

When asked about the same, Social Media Manager Justin Massongill said that the game was omitted from the category because it already won the same award last year. “You may notice a slight change to this year’s “Most Anticipated” category,” Massongill said. “Since The Last of Us Part II won the Platinum Trophy in that same category following its announcement last year, it’s no longer eligible for a nomination in that category this year.”

That… doesn’t really make much sense, does it? Oh well, it’s not like many of us were expecting the game to launch in 2018 anyway.

Thanks, PSU!
