Naughty Dog has been relatively quiet following the release of The Last of Us Part 2, which became one of the most critically and commercially acclaimed games ever. This makes sense considering how long the development cycle was but we could be receiving news on future plans soon. The developer recently released a tweet where it announced that Outbreak Day would be renamed to The Last of Us Day.

The date is September 26th and synonymous with when the outbreak first occurred in the series’ universe. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact, the developer felt that it wasn’t right to continue using “Outbreak Day” as a term. It also felt that the date “means so much more than lore. It’s about showing appreciation to our fans.”

However, it’s at the tail end of the tweet where Naughty Dog talks about having a “lot of exciting things planned and we can’t wait to share them with you in just a few days!” Perhaps we’ll finally get a reveal of the new Factions multiplayer, for which alleged footage has leaked over the past few months. Maybe it’s a tease of the upcoming TV show. Either way, fans of the franchise still have plenty to look forward to.
