Data for video game retail sales in the UK for last week are in, and as reported yesterday, The Last of Us Part 2 has enjoyed solid launch in the region (via GamesIndustry). With two days on the market, Naughty Dog’s latest release immediately became the biggest launch for a video game in the region for the year so far, surpassing the launch sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons by an impressive 40 per cent gap.
It has also become Sony’s fastest selling PS4 game to date, surpassing Uncharted 4 by a 1 per cent lead- though it’s likely that with digital sales included, that gap is much bigger. Finally, The Last of Us Part 2 has also had a much better launch than its predecessor, selling 76 per cent more at launch.
In second place is Ring Fit Adventure, enjoying a 33 per cent rise in sales over last week. Thanks to the launch of its recent Isle of Armor DLC, Pokemon Sword has also seen 51 per cent increase in sales, and rises up to ninth place (while Shield occupies the No. 22 spot).
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which topped charts last week, has fallen to fourth place. Manwhile, other perennial performers such as FIFA 20, Minecraft, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Grand Theft Auto 5 can also be found in the top 10. Notably, however, Animal Crossing: New Horizons falls out of the top 10 for the first time since its launch three months ago, falling to No. 12.
