The Last of Us Part 2 is real, which means that Naughty Dog can now finally talk about it more openly. And in a blog post on the PlayStation Blog, director Neil Druckmann discussed the problems with attempting to follow up the original game, and how Naughty Dog almost gave up on the idea- until they finally came up with something that they are sure will be an ‘epic journey.’

“Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case.,” he said. “We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.”

He also reiterated that the game is currently very early in development, and that its release is a ways off. That said, he did promise that more information would be coming in the next few months. The Last of Us Part 2 will launch exclusively on the PS4.
