During a live theatre event held by Naughty Dog for The Last of Us with the release of the PS4 Remastered edition, director Neil Druckmann revealed an interesting secret ending that he wrote for the game. If it wasn’t obvious by now, spoilers lay ahead.

The Last of Us ended with Joel and Ellie seemingly riding off into the distance, unsure of what the future holds. However, the secret ending – which won’t be released in any form and details of which emerged on NeoGAF – sees Joel and Ellie at Tommy’s dam four years later. Joel enters Ellie’s room and talks to her about Tommy wanting him to marry some one named Esther. Things seem rusty at first but Joel gifts Ellie a guitar and promises to teach her how to play.

Joel then begins to play and sing a song, shares a joke and things are noticeably more relaxed between the two. The ending concluded with Joel leaving the room and Ellie trying the guitar – which explains that concept art that emerged not too long ago of an older looking version of her playing the guitar.

What are your thoughts on this ending? Would you have liked it better than the original ending? Let us know in the comments.
