That Dragon Cancer is based on true touching story of the Green family. Developers Ryan and Amy Green decided to create a video game based on their story of raising their child, Joel Green. Joel was diagnosed with terminal cancer at just twelve months old with doctors only giving him just a few months to live. Despite the estimated amount of time doctors gave the Green family, Joel lived for another four years. This is that story with the game filled with tough decisions these two parents had to go through and their love and time spent with Joel.
