Where most publishers are falling under pressure to deliver consistent AAA releases and innovate, Paradox Interactive seemes to be having a jolly good time doing whatever the hell it wants. The publisher is better known for its strategy games, but how does one explain The Showdown Efect, a 2.5D multiplayer actin game that embodies the best of action movie cliches? Paradox is inviting gamers to find out for themselves with a new trailer announcing the upcoming beta. Check it out below.

Players interested in entering the beta can click here and sign up.

There’s really no better way to describe The Showdown Effect than as a side-scrolling action adventure where players can choose a character and run riot on a two dimensional plane, slicing and dicing enemies or just plain blowing them way. It’s definitely worth a look, if only to see if the strategy developer can try something new and unique for a change.
